The Outwell San Diego is made for van owners who want a bit more room without the hassle. Whether you're escaping for a weekend or stopping off on a longer road trip, this lightweight drive-away awning gives you space to store gear or just stretch out and relax - and when you need to head off in the van, it stays pitched and ready for when you get back.

Materials & Waterproofing

The fabric is a lightweight 70D polyester with a 3000mm waterproof rating — tough enough to cope with wet weather, but light enough to pack down small. All seams are taped, and the sewn-in groundsheet keeps water, drafts, and bugs out. It’s the kind of awning you can rely on in typical British conditions without lugging around something bulky.

Frame & Stability

The poles are made from Duratec fibreglass — flexible, lightweight, and solid once it’s all pegged out. Even if the wind picks up, the frame holds its shape well. And because it’s freestanding, you can drive off and leave it pitched — ideal if you're nipping out for supplies or heading to a nearby trail.

Living Area

There’s plenty of space inside for storing kit, setting up a table, or even adding a free standing inner tent if you want a sleeping area. The tinted windows let in loads of light while keeping things private, and if you want even more privacy, the curtains toggle up easily. Ventilation & Comfort

Both side panels have doors, so you're not getting the van or awning muddy before you enter. The main front door has a full mesh panel too — perfect for letting air in and keeping insects out. The flysheet has a warmer tone to it, which gives the inside a brighter, more welcoming feel compared to the usual gloomy grey.

Pitching & Pack Size

The San Diego attaches to your van with either a 4mm or 6mm Kador strip, so it works with most wind-out awnings or fixed rails. It’s quick to pitch, easy to detach when you need to drive away, and when it’s time to pack up, it folds down into a bag that’s 74 x 30 x 30cm and weighs just 11.1kg.
